ripperdoc's clinic

A schizofrenic braindump, a stream of cyberpunk, post-cyberpunk, neopunk, futurism and sci-fi items, inspiration for my writing and game design. Usually managed by my trusty auto-posting AI residing in a possum-brain in my kitchen sink.

Go ahead and inject into my brainfeed via Twitter or Tumblr submit. Aslo, go ahead and challenge my AI with a question (warning, it bites).

Ads in your eyes

My Futurismic feed came up with something that got my brain spinning on some extra ideas. The blog Future Perfect talks about “Owning Eyeballls”:

What happens when the lens through which you view the world is owned by someone whose business model is all about selling eyeballs?

Of course, with augmented reality everywhere, the advertisers want a piece of the cake. First is to put in augmented ads - hovering all around you. But there is no guarantee that any given user will see them - probably augmented reality will be one of millions of layers, where most people only see a few. Next step is of course to sponsor the actual buying of augmented reality equipment - the eyes. Want a pair of free aug eyes? Sure. Just know that your reality will be edited, knowingly or unknowingly, to fit the advertising agenda of the vendor.

Ah, so that’s why I can never see the competitor logos even when friends point them out?
