This is an amazing article detailing the work of two Pittsburgh men who are on the cutting edge of the cyberpunk notion of implants, cybernetic body parts, and the augmentation of humans… for the fuck of it.
Ben Popper exposes bits and pieces of a much deeper movement - a movement in transhumanism where people worldwide are beginning to finally reshape the line from “Man/Machine” to Man-Machine. One day the two will merge from an external, yet symbiotic, relationship and form something that is truly indistinguishable.
The day the first truly cybernetic individual awakens from surgery I will rejoice. I will celebrate that which I have unknowingly been trying to accomplish for so many years - finally becoming one with the collective consciousness that is computing and the internet.
So read this article. Get your brain going. It’s worth your time.
I have missed this one, going up on the watch list!
The best of the Nemesis cyberpunk films.
Prostheses are slowly getting mainstream.
Maya Nakanishi (first three), Aimee Mullins & Hugh Herr, and Olympian Oscar Pistorius. and other cool photos of cyborgs. It is the age of the bionic athletes, I have foreseen it.
By “cyborg” I mean people with prostheses that don’t just replace what’s lost, but improve upon it. This is a big step, as we’re entering an age where we’re forced to ask whether people with certain prostheses are actually more capable than those without. We’re entering an age where “handicapped” will be an even more inaccurate term than it already is.
Damned right. I do not look at these photos with condescending inspiration, but with awe and self-inferiority.
Uhhh… fetishism and lust, but that’s probably just me.
Quite an interesting (albeit not very original) game trailer / tech demo for “Project KARA”. Quite similar to recent Swedish TV series “Äkta människor” (Real Humans).

Another small step for cybernetics, but a giant leap for Anti-Cyborg Squad’s attempt at finding Prosthesis Jones left arm that is still roaming the streets looking for it’s next victim!
On the way home from the bar, she developed a limp. He offered to take a look. Said he was an expert in this kind of thing, which was a lie, which was fine because she wasn’t really limping. He opened her up, ignoring the warning stickers and pretending to poke around. She said she felt much better.
Later, they voided their warranties against the cold rough bricks of a 1930s factory that had long ago been converted into high-end lofts for a fashion engineering co-op.
